Heir of the Covenant

This hymn is about worshiping our King.  Many times, it is hard for me to really grasp a good picture of God.  It is hard to understand God or know Him.  But, God has revealed Himself in His Word, and there are many things that we can understand about Him.  It helps me in my relationship with God to see who He is, and to worship Him for it.  Well, this hymn is about worshiping our King.  It gives us some good reminders of who God is.  He is our Shield and Defender.  It is sometimes very hard to overcome sin and Satan, but God is there as our Shield and Defender, aiding us in our ongoing struggle.  He is a mighty King, and the giver of Grace.  Lately, God has been showing me many of the things He has and is doing for me.  It amazes me how much God grace God has given and is giving me.  And how much I don't deserve it.  He is caring.  Many times, it doesn't seem like God is there, and it doesn't seem like He's helping us much, but never doubt His love and His care.  He is there, and He does care, even if you can't see it all the time.  The last line of the second to last verse gives us four great descriptions of God: "Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend."  He made us, He defends us, He redeemed us, and He befriends us!  In Romans it talks about how if God is for us, who can be against us?  And that if God didn't spare His Son, He will surely be with us and "graciously give us all things."  God is here, and He is on our side.  He didn't spare His Son for us, so why do we worry that He isn't helping us now?  So, let us worship our King!
1. O worship the King, all glorious above, O gratefully sing His power and His love; Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days, Pavilioned in splendor, and girded with praise. 2. O tell of His might, O sing of His grace, Whose robe is the light, whose canopy space, His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form, And dark is His path on the wings of the storm. 3. The earth with its store of wonders untold, Almighty, Thy power hath founded of old; Established it fast by a changeless decree, And round it hath cast, like a mantle, the sea. 4. Thy bountiful care, what tongue can recite? It breathes in the air, it shines in the light; It streams from the hills, it descends to the plain, And sweetly distills in the dew and the rain. 5. Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail, In Thee do we trust, nor find Thee to fail; Thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end, Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend. 6. O measureless might! Ineffable love! While angels delight to worship Thee above, The humbler creation, though feeble their lays, With true adoration shall all sing Thy praise.

Every month, I will be posting the lyrics of a hymn as the new Hymn of the Month.  I hope you will read it and try to apply it...hymns are such a blessing, let's not let them go to waste.  My dad suggested something to me.  He said whenever you're down or are facing a temptation, start to sing...so I sing hymns.  There are different types of hymns.  Some for praising God, some about the nature of God, and some about how God relates to His people.  I bet you there is a good hymn for any sort of situation you are in, so I hope the ones I put up here every month will be helpful.  Feel free to comment on any of these hymns and share any insight that you might have.
