Song of Solomon 1:3: "Your name is like perfume poured out." That is Jesus' name to a sinner's ear. Constantly I will pray that God will help me to see what a sinner I am and then see how great a Savior I have. It is easy to lose track of how sinful we are, and sometimes we fear to focus and admit how much of a sinner we are. And, if we didn't have Jesus, we should fear! But, Jesus' name is sweet to the sinner's ear, for He saved us from it. But, He does so much more. This hymn does a very good job of showing us all that Christ meant and all that Christ means today. We cannot truly appreciate Christ until we see our sin (something I need to do more is see my sinfulness and praise my Savior Jesus Christ for His work). I don't give nearly enough praise and adoration to Christ. I don't nearly see how amazing what He really did was. Well, this hymn shows me some of the things Christ means to the sinner. It is such a neat hymn, and the tune may almost make you cry. I can't give you the tune here, but I can gives you the magnificent words. So here they are.
1. How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds In a believer’s ear! It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds, And drives away his fear. 2. It makes the wounded spirit whole, And calms the troubled breast; ’Tis manna to the hungry soul, And to the weary, rest. 3. Dear Name, the Rock on which I build, My Shield and Hiding Place, My never failing treasury, filled With boundless stores of grace! 4. By Thee my prayers acceptance gain, Although with sin defiled; Satan accuses me in vain, And I am owned a child. 5. Jesus! my Shepherd, Husband, Friend, O Prophet, Priest and King, My Lord, my Life, my Way, my End, Accept the praise I bring. 6. Weak is the effort of my heart, And cold my warmest thought; But when I see Thee as Thou art, I’ll praise Thee as I ought. 7. Till then I would Thy love proclaim With every fleeting breath, And may the music of Thy Name Refresh my soul in death!
