If you remember, a little while ago, I talked about some categories hymns can fall into. Some hymns are prayers from God's people to God. This hymn is a prayer, encompassing praise, adoration, and supplication. It's a very good prayer, and perhaps it may show you some of the things that you should pray for? In the second verse, it says, "Come and Thy people bless." We need to remember as Christians, we shouldn't just pray for ourselves, or just our close friends and family. We need to pray for the church body as a whole. So, here's what I want you to do: read through this once, then read it again as a prayer to God. Can you do that? As always, enjoy the hymn!
Come, Thou almighty King, Help us Thy name to sing, Help us to praise! Father all-glorious, O'er all victorious, Come and reign over us, Ancient of Days. Come, Thou Incarnate Word, Gird on Thy mighty sword, Our prayer attend; Come and Thy people bless And give Thy Word success; Spirit of Holiness On us descend. Come, holy Comforter, Thy sacred witness bear In this glad hour. Thou, who almighty art, Now rule in every heart And ne'er from us depart, Spirit of Power! To the great One in Three Eternal praises be Hence evermore! His sovereign majesty May we in glory see And to eternity Love and adore!
